Ielts Listening

You will be listening for a purpose and hear a variety of accents

In IELTS listening test you will be listening different types of voices. In IELTS listening test different types of voices are used, so it is possible that you might hear American, Newzealand, British and Australian accents. Moreover, you will be listening the already recorded tape, which will be played on a CD-ROM, and the dialogues or passages, which you will hear during the listening test will gradually increase in difficulty as you go through the test. 
The content and pattern for both Academic IELTS and General IELTS is the same, and there is no such difference between the patterns of each module for IELTS listening section. 
Main Purpose of the Listening Test 

The Primary Purpose of this test is to assess your wide range of listening skills, which includes that how well you
  • comprehend basic ideas as well as specific factual information 
  • understand and pick the opinions, purpose and attitude of the speaker. 
  • follow the development of an argument
Timing

The overall time for this test is about 30 minutes and after that you are provided with additional 10 minutes to transfer all of your answer to the provided answer sheet. Also, there are about 40 questions, which you have to answer during this test. 

Four sections
The Listening test is further divided into 4 sections, as shown below: 
IELTS Listening Sections
In each of the section you will be listening the recorded instructions as well as a sample question and answer to that question, before the start of each section. After that you will be provided time to read the instructions and question. For example; the speaker will say that now you have 1 minute to look from question 1 to 5 , or maybe from question 1 to 10, depending upon the section type. So, you must prepare yourself to read questions quickly or to have central idea, what you have to answer and on what sort of information you have to pay extra attention. This procedure will be repeated for section 1, 2, 3 and 4. However, the level of difficulty will be increased in each section. In the final 10 minutes, the examiners will provide you extra 10 minutes to transfer all of your answer on the provided answer sheet. 
Questions

There will be total 40 questions.
Different types of questions will be asked, and you will be asked to 
  • give answer to multiple choice questions
  • label a map, diagram or plan
  • fill in the blanks
  • to complete a table 
  • to complete a flow-chart
  • to provide short answers give short answers
